Lucky 13 Lacquer – Ballad of Serenity Part 1
About a month ago I was approached by Kyoti of Lucky 13 Lacquer. She asked me if I liked Firefly. Ummmm, do some people juggle geese!?
The reason for this question will seem obvious for anyone that follows Lucky 13 Lacquer on Facebook. Kyoti has created an epic 11 piece set inspired by Serenity and her inhabitants. Say hello to Ballad of Serenity.
Are you drooling yet? Given the size, I’ll be breaking this collection in to 2 posts. The five I worked with today are listed below. Keep flying and read on.
You Can’t Take the Sky from Me
Serenity: Matted (try not to faint)
I figured that it was only fair to start the collection off with this Serenity-inspired beaut. After all, without Serenity there wouldn’t be much of a show. I mean, it could still work, but…the Reavers would have killed them pretty early on. You Can’t Take the Sky from Me has a charcoal jelly base with several sizes of silver glitter mixed throughout. The formula was BFF-worthy, making for a shiny application. And really, just…look at it. This lacquer has more depth than a Shel Silverstein poem. That’s saying a lot. All photos show 3 coats, sans undies.

Big Damn Hero
Ain’t he just? Big Damn Hero is a tribute to Malcolm Reynolds, in all his earth-toned glory. The polish has a mix of red, copper, and brown hexes in a clear base. I had no issues at all getting the glitters out. The look above shows exactly how the glitters came off of the brush, no dabbing or rearranging. As far as undies go, I couldn’t find the perfect shade in my collection, so I made something instead. Appropriately named Captain Tight Pants. Given the neutral characteristics, Big Damn Hero will look amazing over almost any earth-toned polish. I have a feeling it would really pop over aubergine. Photos show 1 coat.

Episode 1 yielded a scene that geeks will get off to for ages to come: Kaylee making love to a strawberry. This a lacquer devoted to that love. Strawberry Girl has a bright, BRIGHT strawberry jelly base with black micro glitter (seeds) and green shreds (leaves) mixed in. Just as Kaylee keeps her ship running, so does Kyoti keep her formulas perfect. All photos show 2 coats, sans undies. Have good sex.

A Leaf on the Wind
Source: The Feels!!!!
Matted, of course.
“I am a leaf on the wind. Watch how I soar.”
When Kyoti told me the name for Wash’s lacquer I told her that I needed to go cry. I’m still swimming in a sea of feels over his death.
So sudden. So heartbreaking. But, my Glob, he went out a hero, after saving everyone. A Leaf on the Wind is a sky blue jelly with silver micro glitters, and medium light green hexagons. Not to be a member of the broken record brigade, but again, formula and application were
to die for. You’ve gone too far, Mish! TOO FAR! I am cursing my sudden but inevitable bad sense of humor. Horrid and devastating pun aside, this tribute lacquer for Wash is amazing. Photos all show 3 coats, no undies.

Obviously, I matted it.
“Have you ever been with a Warrior Woman?”
Last up for today is a topcoat inspired by Zoë Washburne, First Officer and bad ass extraordinaire. Warrior Woman has a mix of minuscule bronze squares and even smaller taupe flakes in a clear base. Finding the perfect pair of undies for this one did prove problematic. Too dark, and you couldn’t see the bronze. Too light, and you couldn’t see the flakes. I think I found the perfect balance in Butter London’s All Hail the Queen. And again, just a perfect formula. All photos show 2 coats over undies.

As both an addict of Firefly and nail polish, I cannot say enough nice things about these 5 lacquers. All were a dream to work with…and the nostalgia had me Fangirling the entire time. The collection just went live last night and can be purchased at the Lucky 13 Lacquer website. Also, be sure to check out their Facebook page for updates and specials. So let me hear it, Reader. Are you going to jump on any of these feels-inducing beauts? You know I feed off of your comments.
